cg2112's music...

Glad to find this site. I was a big fan of mp3.com until it was revamped and was no longer useful to independent musicians.

I've been a musician for more than 20 years, and sit right smack in the middle of mediocre. I love to write and record, and hear music from others who do the same. I have a small studio set up in my basement consisting of a Fostex VF16, various mixers, line 6 equipment, many guitars, a drum kit, and a PC.

Dead

This is something I wrote a while ago. I kinda like it, though like most of my stuff, not terribly happy about the mix. The problem with a budget studio.

Discourse

Believe it or not, I wrote this song about the internet. We've all been part of those online bulletin boards or discussion groups where people just argue senselessly, knowing that no one is going to change anyone's mind. I was without subject matter, started making stuff up, and the theme just kind of evolved over time.

Even Trade

This was one of the first songs I recorded when I started home recording 7 or so years ago. It's gone through a lot of evolution over the years, I think this is the final version.

This was also the title track of a CD I released several years ago (though the version on that CD had not evolved into what the song has become, though the actual mix was better).

Of the songs that I've posted here, this is, if not my favorite, close to it.

Obsession

Weird. The first time I uploaded this, there was nothing. Odd.
Hopefully fixed now.

I have a chorus for this and that's it, and there's some level issues at the beginning, as I'm not sure exactly what I want to do with the guitar there yet.

Reliance

Kind of cheesy in the lyrics department. I sort of make the words up as I go along, go back, do it over, until I have something that kind of makes sense. Recorded about three years ago in my basement.

Sense

I wrong this shortly after 9/11...didn't intend for that to be what the song was about (I usually just make stuff up to fit the music, then tweak to make some sense out of it), it just sort of worked out that way in the evolution of the song.

Sleep Tight

This started out as a nice quiet piece that I would play for my son to get him to sleep. It eventually evolved into a bit more than that, as an instrumental. Not the best mix in the world, I think I was still using an 8-track when I recorded this.

Track 10

Dunno why I'm calling this Track 10. I think it was track 10 on a CD I burned of stuff that I'd written to listen to in the car (my favorite place to listen and critique new tracks).

No lyrics here again. That's where I'm always deficient. If you're a Rush fan, you'll definitely hear the influence here (think "Analog Kid" -- I didn't realize this until later). The bass on this track, in parts (particular what will be the second verse) is some of the best playing and sound I've gotten out of my bass.

Untitled

Don't have a title or lyrics for this yet.
Something I worked on a little while ago, that came about while I was playing with a new floorboard for my amp.

You Say

This is about three years old. The first half of the guitar solo is a little tip of the hat to Rush, who have been a favorite of mine since early high school.
